The best kept secret to healthy, luscious, glossy, hair!
So last month I did this little experiment for myself and of course for you beautiful brides to be 🙂 I didn’t wash my hair with regular shampoo for a month!!! You may have heard of the “no poo” method? Well basically it’s a combination of using baking soda to wash and apple cider vinegar to rinse/condition, there are a few variations such as using honey which I also tried and I’m sure a few others!
So why do this you may ask? Well our modern shampoos are filled with chemicals that strip our hair of natural healthy oils and leave our hair getting greasier much quicker and therefore needing washing much more, so we are continuously stripping away all these nourishing oils. Also if you’re like me and like dying your hair this “no poo” will be particularly beneficial as it will give your hair the chance to replenish it self and have a break from all those harsh chemicals!
I usually only wash my hair a maximum 2 times a week especially since dying it blonde and dealing with all the dryness (besides the chemical aftermath been blonde is fun haha) so I knew I could handle the 1 month! I’ll admit it wasn’t easy but I definitely got away with it and most days it only looked like my hair hadn’t been washed for 2 days at most 🙂
The first two weeks I tried a combo of baking soda and honey, as baking soda can be quite harsh on some hair, but I didn’t find it all that helpful in actually cleaning my hair so stopped using it.
I loved the apple cider vinegar rinse and used this instead of the baking soda, I used it about every 3 days and if I was going out and needed to look respectful I washed with it. In between the apple cider vinegar I simply washed with water, as I’m active & sweating most days I washed with water everyday!
Use 1 tbsp baking soda in 1 cup of water and double for longer hair, pour over your head and massage in like regular shampoo except there will be no foaming. Or if your hair is more delicate try 1 part honey to 3 parts water (can melt honey if needed, of course good quality organic natural honey works best!)
Follow with 1 part apple cider vinegar to 3 parts water and pour over your head making sure to get the ends, massage in again and then rinse well…don’t worry the strong acv smell doesn’t stay!
The first time I used my organic shampoo to finally wash my hair it looked seriously amazing!!! And at the 3 day mark started to get a little greasy but the ends weren’t nearly as dry as they used to be YAY mission accomplished!
Now I’m only washing my hair with organic shampoo every 2 weeks and using water everyday and occasionally apple cider vinegar in between and honestly it’s helping so much! My ends used to get crazy and fan out but while letting all the healthy oils stay in my hair and brushing it daily the ends are finally getting nourished.
So I suggest in the lead up to your wedding choose a month where you don’t have lots of special occasions and test out “no poo” hair washing! Your hair will thank you and when you go back to regular shampoo (if you do, some people swear by “no poo”) please search for an organic brand that will be less harmful to your hair and you!

PS If you’re not up for the 1 month (totally understandable if you’re not!) just try washing your hair 1-2 times a week and let those lovely natural oil nourish your hair!
Good luck & let me know how you find it!
