Is your breakfast making you fat!?
I have some sad truth to deliver, practically all packaged cereal that are many people’s go to breakfast are actually one of the worst things you could be eating basically because it’s a food like product and not real food!
These admittedly yummy cereals contain little to no nutritional value, they are highly processed, high in sugar, high in GMO’S and contain chemicals I can’t even pronounce and sneakily marketed to make us think they’re a healthy choice.
And it’s the “healthy” ones you really need to watch out for, so next time your at the store and go to grab a supposedly nutritious granola have a quick look at the ingredients list and if the list is long with words you can’t pronounce don’t buy it!
Here is a quick little lists of cereals to avoid:
- Special K
- Raisin Bran
- Rice bubbles
- Honey Bunches of Oats
I know it sucks finding out how bad some of the stuff you may have grown up on is but don’t worry there are delicious real food options for all you cereal lovers YAY! These options will give you; fibre, complex carbohydrates, protein and most importantly keep you full for longer!
- Porridge (made with whole oats)
- Bircher muesli (recipe here)
- Chia puddings
- Homemade granola (recipe here)
- Raw store bought muesli
- Homemade muesli (oats, coconut, seeds, nuts, dried fruits)
While we are talking cereal I’ll just give you a very quick note on milk, low fat cows milk is not your best choice as the fat is replaced with sugar and most brands contain high amounts of hormones so when possible buy organic full fat milk. There are also some great cow’s milk alternatives, I personally love almond milk and there is also rice milk, any nut milk, coconut milk and goat’s milk; just be sure to get the unsweetened options 😉
I hope these new breakfasts give you loads of energy & satisfaction, trust me your mornings are going to be much better with a full nourished belly!
